When I go to someplace the bulk of the folks I see working are boomers... the homelessness of boomers is on the rise by a frightening amount... many boomers had to blow their savings on their lazy children. So how exactly are the problems of today all the boomers fault? I've heard that boomers need to get out of their homes in order to let younger folks have it... right - Like we worked our entire lives just to turn around and give it to someone else who didn't work for it. This is reality, Greg and that ain't going to happen... someday they'll see how insane their sentiment was.
I'm sorry that some in the younger generations (not all of them, but far too many of them), don't like to work, but ~hot take~ neither did we boomers. We did it because we HAD TO. Our parents didn't buy us a car... our parents weren't going to pay for the gas that went into it, insurance that kept it safe or the cost of the upkeep of it... that was our responsibility and we're all glad they made us do so. It helped make us responsible. Saying that, okay, I will concede that perhaps too many boomers just handed things to their children and didn't stop to think of the repercussions down the road, but most of us had to work for it and made our children do the same.
I've actually seen some millenials say that we boomers need to get out of the way because we just don't understand the problems they face.
Umm, we don't?
That's an amazingly stupid thing to say... we don't get it. Why? Do they believe it was all moonlight and canoes for us when we were younger? We could afford a home straight out of the gate? Got six digit salaries after attending college? Never shared a ramen brick for dinner? Never had to borrow money we couldn't pay back?
Please wake up, it never happened that way.
And even more insulting to my generation is that some seem to think we're not suffering and struggling through inflation as they are. Are you kidding me? We suffer MORE. If we're not working for someone else that means we're on a fixed income, which is usually not commensurate with the industries prices. Oh, yeah, Washington loves to believe their pittance of 'raises' will suffice, but it barely buys a box of cereal and a gallon of milk. So, excuse me if I'm not whistling Dixie at all the money we're packing away here.
Years ago when the bank kept giving us the 'escrow shortage' letters I thought we'd never get the hell out of that full circle nightmare, but here are, owning our home... sitting in the lap of luxury...
(putting on the brakes) Say what?
Yeah, I naively and perhaps foolishly assumed that when we got the house payment and car payment behind us we'd be rolling in money. It ain't happening. Don't misunderstand me, we're not falling behind and we're not going to a food shelf, like too many I know, but we haven't got 50G's in the bank, either. Remember, we're all here, we're all doing this together... and we all need encouragement now and then. God is indeed blessing us everyday... ALL OF US.
Maybe its time every generation stops the insanity of their lives for an hour and start counting the blessings instead of the trials. Perhaps if we all began building one another up instead of knocking each other down the world would be a better place. We all have troubles, sorrows, hardships and pain... but we all have God, beauty, glory and joy, if we only allow God to bring it to us.
So please, the next time you think someone, no matter what color, age, area, thinks they won't understand your circumstances... go talk to them face to face and see what they have to say.
You might be surprised.
Did you know that when you give your worry, pain, sorrow and anger to God He creates another galaxy out there in the continuum? Is that awesome or what?
Like this...
What an incredibly beautiful thing to come out of our troubles...
Go have God start making some for you!
